Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg owes one of its most important 20th-century services to the architect and designer Wolfgang von Wersin. In the style of New Objectivity, Wersin designed the Adonis form for Nymphenburg, which is still considered one of the manufactory’s most beautiful today. The light refracts in the fine fluted relief of the surface, making the body appear almost transparent in the play of shadows. The large mug was created almost 100 years after Wersin’s design as a contemporary addition to the classic service. Its size meets today’s drinking habits, and with its balanced proportions and characteristic fluted relief, it harmoniously integrates into the design language of Adonis, carefully carrying the historical design into the present.
